Stok Kangri trek

The Stok Kangri trek is one of the ultimate difficulty level treks in the country. It is set in the Ladakh region in northern India, within the boundaries of Hemis National Park. The Hemis National Park is known for its rich diversity of flora and fauna and therefore makes it an exciting part of the Stok Kangri Trek and also gives a boost to face the upcoming challenges in the trek as the trekkers ascend to higher altitudes.

The Stok Kangri peak is perched at a breathtaking height of 6,153 meters above the mean sea level and has a very steep climb up the top. Some people have not even been able to complete the Stok Kangri trek owing to its harsh weathers and extreme atmospheric conditions. Nose bleeds and AMS are common troubles faced by the trekkers in the Stok Kangri trek.  Therefore it’s important that the trekkers inform their guides or any staff member immediately in case they feel sick. Due to the high altitudes of above 20,000 ft oxygen levels are also low and keep on decreasing as you ascend through the trek.

You may have difficulty in breathing even if you are not doing any tiring work.  Snow storms are unpredictable as we reach near the final climb and therefore the trekkers must be prepared for any kind of emergency and even to return back and retreat from the journey if need be. There have been many stories about trekkers giving up a few meters before the final climb because of health issues therefore to have prior trekking experience and absolute physical fitness are of utmost importance.
